A Miami-based company accused of routing millions of foreign-based robocalls into the United States is the target of a federal lawsuit by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody seeking to stop the operation. Smartbiz Telecom LLC made calls with "spoofed" telephone numbers that made consumers believe calls originated from federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration, law enforcement officers and even 911, according to the suit.
